WITH ANNE-SOPHIE MUTTER, Violin

BARTÓK: Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 2 Sz 76 (1922)
Deutsche Grammophon.
Compact Disc: 289-453-507-2

This sonata was recorded at the same time as those works found on "The Berlin Recital" in conjunction with the recital presented in September, 1995 by Anne-Sophie Mutter and Lambert Orkis at the Philharmonie in Berlin, Germany. This stunning performance displays not only the artists' virtuosity, but also a remarkable feeling for ensemble and expression.

The Bartók is coupled with the GRAMMY Award-winning work: Penderecki's "Metamorphosen", Violin Concerto No. 2. Anne-Sophie Mutter is soloist with the London Symphony Orchestra, the composer conducting, in a performance which garnered a second GRAMMY for this disc.

"This is a reading informed from first to last with a perfect sense of style, and the recording has the ideal blend of clarity and atmosphere."
Gramophone

"...a release of the finest quality, recommended to the really serious listener."
Fanfare
