ROBERT HALL LEWIS: Combinazioni I for Clarinet, Violin, Cello, and Piano (1973)

Orion. LP: 79363
Reissued as: Albany. Compact Disc:
TROY 166

Combinazioni I is one of five Robert Hall Lewis works on this disc. It was written for the Baltimore Chamber Music Society and premiered in that city by the Aeolian Chamber Players in 1975.

The one-movement piece, as in other works of Lewis of that period, shows much variety in timbre and unusual effects utilizing several registers and performed by the chosen instruments in solo passages and in combination.

The recording of this piece took place in 1978 and was made under the auspices of the Penn Contemporary Players of the University of Pennsylvania, which at that time was under the direction of the Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Richard Wernick. The artists performing with Lambert Orkis are Arne Running, clarinet; Barbara Sonies, violin; and Lori Barnet, cello.
