WITH ANNE-SOPHIE MUTTER, Violin

RECITAL 2000
PROKOFIEV: Sonata for Violin and Piano in D Major, Op. 94a
CRUMB: Four Nocturnes
(Night Music II)
WEBERN: Four Pieces, Op. 7
RESPIGHI: Sonata for Violin and Piano in b minor

Deutsche Grammophon. Compact Disc: 469 503-2

This disc contains works that Mutter and Orkis performed during their premiere tour of the new Millennium. Although this music may not be as well-known as sonatas by Beethoven and Franck, or pieces such as Ravel's Tzigane, each one is a special jewel unto itself, wonderfully displaying the unique compositional style of the individual composer and illustrating the concept that beautiful music can indeed take many forms. These works were recorded live in conjunction with two recitals which took place in Stuttgart in May, 2000.

"In these intensely emotional performances, Mutter and Orkis respond to rapt audiences with playing of exceptional intimacy."
Gramophone

"…this is a stunner of a recital…"

"Mutter and Orkis bring great energy and power and effortless virtuosity to this music…" [Prokofiev]

"…this is splendidly played and a very personal, involving performance that offers a fresh perspective on a badly undervalued work." [Respighi]

"Mutter and Orkis provide one of the most astounding performances I have ever heard, of any music, live or on recording." [Webern]

"Once again the dynamic range and control of these musicians is simply awe-inspiring…" [Crumb]

"The Prokofiev and Respighi are very well played here…but the Webern and the Crumb lift this recital to the level of an event. One can only bow before such artistry."
Fanfare

"These are great performances–Mutter's tone is impeccable and Orkis showcases his ever-increasing versatility. Great recorded sound, too."
