WEBER: Six Sonatas for Violin and Piano These works by Carl Maria von Weber were all recorded by William Steck and Lambert Orkis in 1987. This compact disc was released in 1995. The delightful Weber pieces heard on this disc were all composed in the early years of the nineteenth century. The instruments used for these performances are a 1979 Peresson violin and a modern Steinway grand. Because of his experiences with period instruments, Orkis has developed the ability to transfer to the modern keyboard the expressive characteristics inherent in an earlier-style piano. His lightness of touch and attention to detail communicate the appropriate stylistic possibilities while beautifully complementing William Steck's eloquent playing. William Steck has been Concertmaster of the National Symphony Orchestra of Washington, DC since 1982, under Musical Directors Mstislav Rostropovich and Leonard Slatkin. "[The Weber works] are wonderful - especially as played with such panache and virtuosity by violinist William Steck and pianist Lambert Orkis." "Highly recommended - a total joy of a release"
