Richard Wernick's Piano Concerto

Solo piano works have been written for Lambert Orkis by Richard Wernick, George Crumb, James Primosch, and Maurice Wright. Crumb's A Little Suite for Christmas, is fast becoming a part of pianists' standard repertoire. Richard Wernick's Piano Concerto was premiered at the Kennedy Center and in Carnegie Hall with The National Symphony Orchestra, Mstislav Rostropovich conducting, and was subsequently given a Friedheim Award. Orkis gave its European premiere with Het Residentie Orkest of The Hague, The Netherlands with the composer conducting.

"Playing the music of the 20th century has allowed me the opportunity to experience a dazzling array of sonic possibilities. Working with living composers and bringing newly created or unfamiliar modern works to life gives me great joy."
Lambert Orkis

"Orkis is all over the piano, inside and out, contriving a performance of absorbing consequentiality and grace."
