A Little Suite for Christmas, A.D. 1979 RICHARD WERNICK: Sonata for Piano (Reflections of a Dark Light) (1982) Both of these important works were written for Lambert Orkis. A Little Suite for Christmas was an unexpected and cherished Christmas gift from George Crumb, and the Wernick Sonata for Piano resulted from a request by Orkis to the Pulitzer Prize-winning composer and friend of long-standing. These works are as different as night and day, but both are powerfully effective in conveying the emotions that are expressed.
"Mr. Orkis's rendering of this moving work (Wernick Sonata) is vivid, cohesive and magical."
"Outstanding performances of major piano works by a sensitive and accomplished pianist."
"Contemporary music does not get much better than what is heard on this disc."
