KEYS TO THE FUTURE (FROM HAMMERS TO BYTES) Premiere performance of new works commissioned by Lambert Orkis for solo piano by two prominent Philadelphia composers.
Sunday,
April 14, 2002 After several years in the process, Keys to the Future is finally coming to fruition. On April 14, 2002, Lambert Orkis will present for the first time an exhilarating new program combining the powers of the acoustic piano and the Kurzweil synthesizer that will show the breath of artistic keyboard expression-past, present, and future. Composers chosen for this project are Philadelphia based long-time Orkis musical associates, Richard Wernick and James Primosch, who offer generational continuity in musical excitement and integrity.
Comments by Lambert Orkis Richard Wernick's Piano Sonata No. 2 was delivered to me in the summer of 2000 and is everything I had hoped it to be and more. It is a large work filled with beauty and originality. As has been my experience with his music, his new work is uncompromising in its demands on both the performer and the audience. I have found it to be challenging, stimulating, and also a lot of fun. Sonata-Fantasia by James Primosch explores the extensive sonic possibilities of the electronic keyboard in combination with the rich fullness of the modern grand piano. Mr. Primosch has created a wonderful piece of music which, while being quite formidable for the performer who has twice as many keys to contend with as usual, should delight and enthrall the listener.
This concert is sponsored by The Philadelphia Chamber Music Society and The Musical Fund Society of Philadelphia. For more information visit KEYS TO THE FUTURE
